Ene Mene Mu and President Are You is an American comedy film from 1980.

action

Manfred Link is the President of the United States and, in addition to his constantly drunk wife, his sexually starved daughter Gloria, also has neurotic, eccentric employees to deal with. The government is currently trying to get the support of the fictional African state Obergorm to secure an important supplier of raw materials. Unfortunately, only one man can be found who speaks the language of the country. Dr. Alexander Grade, however, cannot prevent the misunderstandings that happen. This led to an exchange of delegations, and while the American delegation, including Manfred's daughter Gloria, was kidnapped and kept as slaves, the Gorgesian delegation was up to mischief in Washington.

criticism

“A hearty satire that does not shrink from platitudes or the most silly swipes on the great US politics as well as American self-image and arrogance; initially with a flair for macabre comedy, then increasingly disheveled and unsure of taste. "

“Buck Henry's satirical farce about a fictional American president [...] has scenes that are on the one hand funny, on the other hand sublime [...]. It offers the most beautiful collection of comedy actors that you can see in film this year. "

background

The film opened in theaters on December 25, 1980 and grossed over 15 million US dollars. In Germany it has been available on VHS since December 1986.
