Bob Dishy

Robert "Bob" Dishy (born January 12, 1934 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American actor .

Life

Dishy began his career at the theater and had in 1956 his Broadway debut as Rocky the musical Damn Yankees by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross . He remained connected to the theater throughout his career; In addition to numerous Broadway appearances, he has also appeared in off-Broadway productions. Two of his musical appearances on Broadway resulted in live albums that were released on record in 1965 and 1967 respectively.

His television debut in 1967 Dishy in the Emmy -nominated television adaptation of Damn Yankees alongside Phil Silvers and Lee Remick . In the same year he received his first feature film role; In the film comedy The Tiger Strikes Back by director Arthur Hiller , he played one of the leading roles alongside Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson . Dishy also played other major film roles in Lovers and Other Strangers and The Autumn Timeless , both of which are film adaptations of plays. Dishy was also in numerous small roles in comedies such as The Hair -raising Journey in a Crazy Bus , Stay Tuned and ... and then Polly (here as the father of Ben Stiller's main character) was seen. Occasionally, Dishy also appeared in television series. In the crime series Columbo , he played a police officer twice, as well as in the pilot of the offshoot Mrs. Columbo . He played a recurring guest role between 1994 and 2002 as Lawrence Weaver in the crime series Law & Order . In the German dubbing, Dishy has no continuous speaker. Over the years it has been dubbed by Reinhard Glemnitz , Oliver Stritzel , Jochen Schröder and Hasso Zorn , among others .

He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1977 for his portrayal of Abner Truckle in the Broadway production Sly Fox . For the same role he received the Drama Desk Award in the same year . In 2000, he was nominated for best actor by the Outer Critics Circle for his work in a production of Arthur Miller's The Price .
