occupation

The Hair-raising Journey in a Crazy Bus is an American comedy from 1976. The film satirizes the genre of the disaster film that emerged in the 1970s .

The US theatrical release was on June 23, 1976, in West Germany the film ran on October 22 of the same year.

action

The nuclear-powered superbus Cyclops is on its maiden voyage from New York to Denver . On board the articulated double-decker there is a bowling alley, a piano bar and even a swimming pool. A bomb severely damaged the reactor and blocked the bus's braking system , rendering it unable to maneuver. After all, it gets stuck on a steep cliff and can only be saved from falling by flooding the galley with the drinks on it. The stewardess Kitty is trapped there and Dan can only save her from drowning at the last second .

John Beck plays the co-chauffeur "Shoulders" O'Brien, who owes this nickname to his narcolepsy , which often leads to him falling asleep at the wheel, which looks like he was driving the bus with his shoulders.

criticism

“A fast-paced and gag-rich 'Crazy Comedy', which parodies the catastrophe film that was popular in the 1970s with sarcastic humor. It’s not exactly squeamish in this grotesque burlesque that has gone wild, although some pretty ideas are lost in slapstick. "

synchronization

The German dubbed version was made in 1976 by Berliner Synchron . The dialogue book comes from Ursula Herwig , who also did the dubbing.

Trivia

A possible role model

  • In 1975 - one year before the film was released - the Neoplan company actually brought an articulated double-decker bus onto the market; the jumbo cruiser .
  • One year after the film was released, one of these real buses was converted into a rolling hotel (“Car-o-tel”), the trapezoidal windows of which seem like a homage to the film model.
