Sally Claire Kellerman (born June 2, 1937 in Long Beach , California ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

Kellerman attended Hollywood High School and graduated from Los Angeles City College . She later learned acting at The Actors Studio in New York . At the age of 18, she was signed to Verve Records as a singer .

Kellerman made her debut in the 1957 film drama Reform School Girl . She played Major Margaret O'Houlihan in the 1970 comedy MASH ; for this role she was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award in 1971 . It won the Golden Laurel and the Kansas City Film Critics Circle Awards .

Kellerman took on one of the leading roles in the comedy Only Flying Is Better (1970). In 1978 she played Lise Bockweiss in the Colorado saga . In the drama Jeanie's Clique (1980) she took on the role of Mary , Jeanie's mother , who played Jodie Foster . In the comedy It Rained All Night the Day I Left (1980) she played on the side of Tony Curtis and was nominated for the 1980 Genie Award . For her role in the comedy Prêt-à-Porter (1994) she received the National Board of Review Award in 1994 as part of the actors' ensemble . As a singer she performed with Corky Hale .

Kellerman was married to screenwriter Rick Edelstein from 1970 to 1975 . In 1980 she married the film producer Jonathan D. Krane . The couple adopted twins Jack and Hannah in 1989.
