Steve Robert Guttenberg (born August 24, 1958 in New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Steve Guttenberg grew up on Long Island as the son of a police officer of Jewish origin. He took his first steps in acting at the renowned Juilliard drama school in New York. He also attended the Actors Studio and demonstrated his talent in small film and television roles. Nevertheless, he began to study medicine .

Steve Guttenberg celebrated great successes as an actor with family films. These include Another Three Men, Another Baby , a remake of the French hit film Three Men and a Baby , and the sequel Three Men and a Little Lady . Films like Cocoon , Cocoon II - The Return , Number 5 Lives! , Casper - How it all began and how high spirits started his career. However, he celebrated his greatest successes with the first four films in the Police Academy series. He was also artistically successful in the television film The Day After - The day after about the effects of a fictional nuclear war in the USA.

His first job as an executive producer was the 1988 short film Gangs for the CBS television series CBS Schoolbreak Special , which received critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination. In 1993 he made his directorial debut with the short film Love Off Limits , also for the US television series CBS Schoolbreak Special .

In London's West End Guttenberg stepped into Tom Griffin's play The Boys Next Door and played on Broadway in Craig Lucas ' Prelude To A Kiss at the Helen Hayes Theater .

In his private life, he has been helping the homeless and young people with no prospects for years. He opened the Guttenhouse housing project, which supports young people after they have been released from the orphanage.

Guttenberg was married to actress Denise Bixler from 1988 to 1992 . On January 19, 2019 Guttenberg married the television reporter Emily Smith (WCBS-TV) in Malibu . The two met on a blind date in 2014 .

In December 2011, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (6411 Hollywood Boulevard , in front of a youth crime prevention police association).
