Casper - How it all began is an American fantasy - children's film from the year 1997 and the first direct-to-video sequel of Casper .
action
At the beginning of the film, the ghost Casper is sitting in a ghost train. He himself neither knows where he is nor that he is a ghost. Overtaxed, he initially thinks of a dream, but then asks other passengers on the train for their destination. He is forcibly removed from the train by a fellow passenger. Still unconscious of his situation, Casper goes to Deedstown, where he unintentionally panics the residents and realizes that he is a ghost.
The second protagonist of the film is 10-year-old Chris Carson, a lonely boy who suffers greatly from the constant absence of his single father Tim Carson from work. He is an architect and at the time of the film was busy demolishing the “Applegate Villa”. But this project is hindered again and again by demonstrators led by Chris' class teacher Sheila Fistergraff and by the ghost trio Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso, who inhabit the old walls.
Casper, who feels alone because everyone is afraid of him, and Chris, who is also lonely and who is repeatedly the victim of teasing from his classmates, especially the cheeky Brock, meet by chance on the street. Casper notices that Chris is not afraid of him and the two become friends. Chris introduces Casper to the ghost trio. They first take Casper into their group to teach him tricks and haunted . Normally this happens in the so-called ghost training camp under the supervision of the devil Kibosh and his helper Snivel. When Kibosh learns that Casper is not among the newcomers to the training camp, he angrily orders his assistant Snivel to find Casper. He should also keep an eye out for Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso, who also never took part in Kibosh's haunted training.
Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso throw Casper out of their group again, as it is extremely difficult for him to put the three of them into practice. Thereupon Chris Casper begins to teach the haunted, much to the displeasure of Kibosh, whose helper Snivel Casper has tracked down and from then on observed. The lessons are proving more and more successful and when Casper protects a shopkeeper from a robbery, he happily decides to use his skills to help the people.
Meanwhile, Chris suffers more and more from the neglect by his father, when a planned father-son day falls into the water, he runs away from home in despair. He is attacked on the street by Brock and his friends and taken to the Applegate house. This is to be blown up the next day by Bill Case with TNT .
When Tim learns from Casper's help that Chris is in the demolition building, he sets off with Sheila to stop the demolition, but he does not succeed. Fortunately, Casper can dampen the explosion by swallowing the TNT, but enough to keep the house intact and save Chris. Chris and his father get closer again and Kibosh allows Stinkie, Stretch and Fatso, who have built up sympathy for Casper in the meantime and pretend to be his uncle, to haunt around even without a "haunted license".
background
Casper - How it all began is a so-called direct-to-video production. It was produced for the home video market and never appeared in the cinema. The film was released on VHS and DVD , and a radio play about the film was also released .
The film has a few differences from its predecessor. For example, the first Casper film gives the impression that Casper never really left Whipsteff Manor after his death, but in the second film he is in a completely different city. The relationship between Casper and the ghost trio is also slightly different. While Stinkie, Strech, and Fatso are actually portrayed as Casper's uncle in the 1995 film, in the 1997 film they just seem to be forced to pretend to placate Kibosh. In addition, the appearance of the ghosts in Casper - How it all began is slightly different.
An official soundtrack with 13 tracks was released for the film.
