With the best of intentions is an American comedy film of Malcolm Mowbray from the year 1990 . Sarah Bird wrote the screenplay based on her novel The Boyfriend School .
action
Cartoonist Gus Kubicek is recovering from treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma . Pale, bloated and bald due to radiation and chemotherapy , he lives with his Jack Russell Terrier in a hermitage of his choosing . His sister Lizzie Potts is very successful in writing pompous romance novels under the pseudonym Viveca Lamoureux and worries about the love life of her younger brother. She tries to get him together with the journalist Emily Pear. The first date arranged by the two of them, however, ends disastrously: Gus falls in love with Emily and embarrasses himself to the bone at the same time. Emily then makes bizarre excuses to avoid meeting Gus. So he desperately accepts Lizzie's suggestion to turn him into one of her novel heroes in order to conquer his dream woman. Her special training turns him into Lobo Marunga , a tanned, muscular, long-haired biker from New Zealand with a supposedly fitting accent . More by chance, Gus succeeds in his new role in saving Emily from a gas station robbery. She is fascinated by the mysterious stranger. After a few meetings, Gus pangs of conscience and he tries to reveal his true identity to Emily, but despite her doubts she wants to spend the night with Lobo . The morning after, Gus reveals himself to her. Emily is beside herself and throws him out of the house. Since Lizzie's name is mentioned during the argument and Emily understands the background, she later complains to Lizzie, who, again through skillful manipulation, ensures that Emily confesses her love to Gus and that they both find each other.
