Matt Aitken (special effects artist)

Matt Aitken (born before 1995) is a special effects artist who was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2010 for the film District 9 .

Life

He graduated from Victoria University of Wellington , where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. He then went to London, where he attended Middlesex University the Master of Science made in the field of computer graphics. In 1994 he went to the fledgling company Weta Digital , where he worked in the field of digital effects on films like The Frighteners and Contact . From 2001 to 2003 he worked as a supervisor in the field of digital models in the film adaptation of the Lord of the Rings trilogy .

This was followed by films such as Bridge to Terabithia , The Day the Earth Stood Still and District 9 , in which he worked as a VFX supervisor . For the film District 9 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 2010 .

He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Visual Effects Society .
