Wes Studi

Wes Studi (born December 17, 1947 in Nofire Hollow, Oklahoma , as Wesley Study ) is an American actor . In 2019 he received the Honorary Oscar for his life's work.

Life and accomplishments

Wes Studi is a member of the Cherokee people . He grew up on an Indian reservation. In 1967 he enlisted as a volunteer in the US Army and served 18 months in the Vietnam War . He then studied at Tulsa Junior College .

Studi made his debut in the 1988 television movie The Trial of Standing Bear . In the 1990 western Dances with Wolves , he starred alongside Kevin Costner . In the film The Doors (1991) Wes Studi played the role of an Indian who appears in Jim Morrison ( Val Kilmer ) in his visions. In 1992 he played the magua in Michael Mann's film adaptation of the novel The Last of the Mohicans . In the film Geronimo - Eine Legende (1993) he took on the role of Geronimo . For this role he received the Western Heritage Award in 1994 - together with some other participants . A year later Studi worked again with Michael Mann and took on the role of Detective Casals in the crime film Heat .

Studi played one of the bigger roles in the horror film Der Gläserne Tod (1996). In the horror film Octalus (1998) he was seen on the side of Treat Williams and Famke Janssen . In 2000 he was awarded the First Americans in the Arts Award . Since 2002, he starred in three television films based on novels of Tony Hillerman the Navajo -Polizisten Joe Leaphorn .

Studi married Rebecca Graves in 1974, with whom he has two children. He later married Maura Dhu, with whom he has a child.
