George "Iceman" Chambers is the reigning and undefeated world heavyweight champion in boxing , but then he is arrested and jailed. The rape trial was based on circumstantial evidence. Mendy Ripstein, the most powerful inmate in the prison, is already waiting for him there. He initiates the fight between the Iceman and the also undefeated heavyweight champion of the Prison League, Monroe Hutchens, because he wants to make a profit on a bet. Ripstein is negotiating with both parties and Chambers should be fired sooner and Hutchens should receive 40% of the winnings for his sister. Since Iceman doesn't make himself popular with the inmates, everyone stands behind their champion.
