Ving Rhames (* 12. May 1959 in New York City as Irving Rameses Rhames ) is an American actor and known for the role of Marsellus Wallace in the cult film Pulp Fiction and the representation of Luther Stickell in the film version of Mission: Impossible - Line.

life and career

Rhames grew up in Harlem, New York . In 1964 he made his debut in front of the camera in the television series Another World .

In 1983 he graduated from the Juilliard School of Drama in New York in the performing arts. In the following years he played theater and was seen in several smaller TV productions, including the TV movie Go Tell It On The Mountain (1984), a film adaptation of James Baldwin 's novel of the same name . He also had guest appearances on television series such as Miami Vice , New York Undercover, and The Equalizer . From 1994 he had a regular role in the doctor series Emergency Room - The emergency room . At the moment he plays the role of Dr. Jorge Villanueva in the series Monday Mornings which started on February 2, 2013 in the USA and on February 7, 2013 on the TNT series in Germany.

His big breakthrough came in 1994 with the role of gang boss Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's cult film Pulp Fiction . This was followed in 1995 by Kiss of Death with Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson . The following year, he first appeared as a computer expert Luther Stickell in Mission: Impossible . He also played in the five sequels in 2000, 2006, 2011, 2015 and 2018. Also in 1996 he played the role of a bouncer in striptease alongside Demi Moore . In 1997 he worked again with Cage, this time in the action film Con Air .

In 1998 he received the Golden Globe for his starring role in the television miniseries Don King: Only in America . But he passed the trophy on to Jack Lemmon . In the same year he appeared in Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight alongside George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez .

After a few more films, he was also seen in the 2002 police thriller Dark Blue at the side of Kurt Russell . In 2004 he starred in the remake of the horror flick Dawn of the Dead . In 2007 he played a gay firefighter in the comedy Chuck and Larry . His standard German dubbing voice is Tilo Schmitz .

Private life

After divorcing Valerie Scott between 1994 and 1999, Rhames has been married to Deborah Reed since 2000. The actor has three children.
