Kurt Vogel Russell (born March 17, 1951 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American actor . Russell appeared in television series as a child and as a teenager. He became known as a taciturn lone fighter in the futuristic action film Die Ratterschlange, shot in 1981 .
life and career
Kurt Russell is the son of actor Bing Russell . As early as 1957 he was seen in the television series Sugarfoot . His cinema career began in 1963 with a role in the Elvis Presley film Ob blond, ob Braun , where he was not mentioned in the credits .
At the age of twelve he had his first major appearance in the role of Jaimie McPheeters in the US television western series The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1963-1964). The series, which was based on a book by Robert Lewis Taylor , also starred Dan O'Herlihy , Charles Bronson and the then very young Osmonds .
Soon the young Russell received a ten-year contract with the Walt Disney Company . He then played roles in many Disney films such as Forty Daredevils (1966), Superbrain in Tennis Shoes (1969) and The Test Tube Goliath (1975). Most of these films were directed by Robert Butler .
Kurt Russell, like his father before him, also had a brief career as a baseball player . In the early 1970s he played at second base within a minor league team of the California Angels (now Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ). After sustaining a rotator cuff injury to one shoulder, he was forced to retire from the sport in 1973. Then he turned back to acting. When George Lucas began casting Star Wars in 1975, Kurt Russell was one of the auditioners for the role of Han Solo , which was eventually cast to Harrison Ford .
In the early 1980s, thanks to John Carpenter, he went from child star to well-known action performer in films such as The Rattlesnake (1981) and the horror classic The Thing From Another World (1982). He landed another success in 1986 with Big Trouble in Little China . After his great success, Kurt Russell tried his hand at humorous interludes such as Overboard - A goldfish falls into the water (1987) with Goldie Hawn and Tango and Cash (1989) with Sylvester Stallone . However, he could no longer build on the earlier successes and kept afloat with less demanding films. Russell made a comeback in the 1990s with films like Backdraft - Men Who Go Through Fire (1991) and Fatal Desire (1992), for which he received a lot of positive reviews. He also played the lead role of Jack O'Neil in the 1994 science fiction film Stargate . As from 1997 by Brad Wright , Jonathan Glassner and Robert C. Cooper to a series was produced, however, you filled this role with Richard Dean Anderson . In 2006 he was seen in the disaster film remake Poseidon by Wolfgang Petersen , which despite mostly positive reviews hardly had any commercial success. In the same year he was hired by Quentin Tarantino to play the role of stuntman Mike in his film Death Proof , which Tarantino had originally offered to Mickey Rourke . In 2015, he starred as bounty hunter John Ruth in Tarantino's film The Hateful Eight . In 2017 he was seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in the role of the ego.
Kurt Russell's German voice is that of Manfred Lehmann in almost all of his films .
family
Kurt Russell was with the actress Season Hubley married, which he on the 1979 set to Elvis had met. With her he has a son, Boston. During his divorce from Hubley in 1983, Russell met Goldie Hawn , with whom he has been dating ever since. The two are not married but have a son, Wyatt Russell . Kurt also took on the fathering duties of Hawn's children from his marriage to Bill Hudson, Oliver and Kate Hudson , who are now both actors themselves.
Russell is a prominent member of the Libertarian Party , which he says made life in Hollywood quite difficult for him. So he soon moved to the area around Aspen , Colorado , where he tried his hand at writing and, among other things, co-wrote the script for Escape from LA . In February 2003, Russell and Hawn moved to British Columbia , Canada, because their son could play ice hockey better there .
Awards
Kurt Russell was nominated for an Emmy in the category Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a Special for the television film Elvis in 1979 .
