action

Dean Higgins is about to lose his post at Medfield College due to financial mismanagement . In order to get his budget in order within 30 days in order not to be dismissed, he reviews individual research projects of his professors and students. He is horrified to learn of Professor Quigley's attempts to fatten the skinny cow Ruthy Bell with the help of vitamins. The cost of the project seem to him too high, he therefore Quigley dismisses the dispute and bangs when leaving the room so violently with the door that a chemical gets into the experimental design that makes a special acid produced, which in turn in the vitamin-rich cereal flows . Dexter realizes what happened, but he can't figure it out, so he only gets a sample of the acid while Schuyler takes the cornflakes home with him.

The next morning, Dexter eats the cornflakes and has to put them away after the first bite, because he tastes too sour. Although he feels a change, he cannot explain what it is about. When tying shoelaces he tears the ribbons, when he closes the front door he tears off the door handle, as he leans against a lantern, kinks it and when he dunkers while playing basketball , he destroys the basket. Dexter just got super powerful. The students quickly summon Quigley and Higgins and explain that Quigley's formula for strengthening is an absolute success. Higgins then hires Quigley back into college and imagines what money he could make from it. So he makes an appointment with the corn flakes manufacturer Crumply Crunch and demonstrates the corn flakes and the strength that you can gain with them. Chairwoman Harriet is absolutely thrilled and finally sees the opportunity to wipe out her greatest rival, Krinkle Cereals , so she proposes a sponsored weightlifting competition between Medfield College and the State U champions . Without knowing what they are getting into, Krinkle agrees.

However, he has an industrial spy at Crumply Crunch with Harry, Harriet's nephew , who tells them about Quigley's formula. Krinkle is horrified and demands that Harry get the formula. So Harry sets out to hire AJ Arno and his assistant Cookie, both of whom have just been released from prison, to steal the formula. After this fails, however, they kidnap Schuyler who, under hypnosis, reveals the formula. Krinkle tries the formula as quickly as possible and has to painfully discover that it doesn't work. But instead of being pissed off that it isn't working, he finds that it isn't working for the opposing team either, which is why his winning team of weightlifters can never lose to the weaklings at Medfield College ; and that before the whole television nation.

On the day of the competition, Dexter also discovers that the formula does not work, but that it was the acid that gave him and Higgins the strength. While his fellow students gradually lose and embarrass themselves against the well-trained weight lifters, Dexter goes to the laboratory, where he discards the acid. However, he is stopped there by Arno's people, so he has to take a swig from the bottle to eliminate all the crooks. He hears on the radio that the competition is lost if he cannot lift 1,111 pounds in the next four minutes . So he rushes to the competition site as quickly as possible, where he has to find out that the substance has lost its effect. With the last sip of the chemical, he manages to win the competition for Medfield College at the last second .

criticism

The test tube Goliath is a Disney comedy based on a magic formula story that the company has already presented in good ( The Flying Drummer ) and less good ( mastermind in tennis shoes ) films. The new film [...] is nowhere near as funny as the first, but much better than the second. "

"Harmless family entertainment from Disney"

"Disney comedy with humor, but little bite"
