Roy Roberts
Roy Roberts (born March 19, 1906 in Dade City , Florida as Roy Barnes Jones , † May 28, 1975 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .
life and career
Roy Roberts was born in a village near Tampa , the youngest of six children . From the early 1930s he was seen in a total of 15 productions on Broadway before he turned to Hollywood films from 1943. As a supporting actor, he played many authority figures such as generals, politicians, sheriffs and judges. Many of his characters were of an unsympathetic nature, such as his anti-Semitic hotel manager in the Oscar-winning drama Tabu der Rigechten starring Gregory Peck . He played in many Western , for example, My Darling Clementine by John Ford , and came in many film noirs like The power of evil and steps at night on. In the 1953 horror film The Cabinet of Professor Bondi , he played Vincent Price's devious business partner , who became his first victim.
On television he was best known for his role as Captain Simon P. Huxley on the sitcom The Gale Storm Show with Gale Storm , between 1956 and 1960 he appeared in 89 episodes of the series. He took on guest and recurring roles in numerous other series: In the western series Smoking Colts he appeared repeatedly as the local banker Harry Bodkin , in In Love with a Witch he played the father-in-law of Elizabeth Montgomery's main character The Witch. Roy Roberts appeared in around 200 films and television series in the year he died. He had one of his last roles in 1974 as mayor in the classic neo-noir film Chinatown , directed by Roman Polanski .
Roy Roberts died of a heart attack in May 1975 at the age of 69. He was married to the actress Lillian Moore (1916-2001) from 1947 until his death.
