The Devil's Pilot (Original Title: Chain Lightning ) is an American feature film from 1950 with Humphrey Bogart and Eleanor Parker . Directed by Stuart Heisler .
action
Matthew "Matt" Brennan was stationed in England as a pilot of a B-17 bomber for the US Army Air Force during World War II . Thanks to his experience as a first-class pilot, he can give the aircraft designer Carl Troxell valuable suggestions for improvement. He falls in love with the Red Cross sister Joan "Jo" Holloway and tries in vain to get permission for an immediate marriage when he has to return to the United States.
At home, Brennan tries in vain for work and has to accept many bitter disappointments. Through his former war comrade Hinkle, he comes to the party of the unscrupulous aircraft manufacturer Leland Willis. There, to his surprise, he meets Holloway again, who now works as a secretary for Willis. Troxell also works for him as an aircraft manufacturer. It was thanks to Brennan that he got a job at Willis as a test pilot for the JA-3 high-speed aircraft. Troxell wants to test his latest invention, a cabin parachute, with him.
When the time comes, however, Brennan is on a record flight from Nome, Alaska, across the North Pole to Washington, DC , to earn the $ 30,000 award. Troxell then starts a test flight himself in the further developed JA-4 to test his cabin parachute, in which he has a fatal accident. The friend's death puts a strain on the love affair between Brennan and Holloway. To prove that his unfortunate friend has succeeded in making a sensational invention, Brennan takes to the skies on his own in the JA-4. After the successful return, he falls into the arms of his beloved.
