A thousand miles of dust , also Cowboys (original title Rawhide ), is a 217-part western series produced by the American television station CBS from 1959 to 1966 .

action

The series tells the adventures of cattle drovers ( cowboys ) that they experience on their way through the American steppes. Gil Favor is in charge of the trek, with many helpers at his side, including the hothead rowdy Yates and the trek cook Wishbone .

A Thousand Miles of Dust was the fifth longest-running western series on US television, topped only by Wagon Train , The People at Shiloh Ranch , Bonanza, and Smoking Colts . The series starred actor Clint Eastwood even though he only played a supporting role.

The German television beamed 1965-66 under the title Cowboys 13 episodes from. The entire series was shown, except for one episode, only from 1991 to 1994 on Pro 7 under the title Thousand Miles of Dust .

music

The theme music was written by the Russian-born Dimitri Tiomkin , whose greatest musical success was the movie Twelve Noon . Ned Washington wrote the lyrics and the theme song was sung by Frankie Laine . Rawhide experienced numerous cover versions and was also used in other films, for example the Blues Brothers perform it in Blues Brothers and it serves as background music in Shrek 2 - The Daredevil Hero Returns .
