Captain Ron (alternative title: Captain Ron: Cruise into Luck ) is an American adventure comedy from 1992. Directed by Thom Eberhardt , who also wrote the script together with John Dwyer .
action
Martin Harvey inherits an old sailing boat that once belonged to Clark Gable . In order to sell the boat in Miami, it has to be transferred from the Caribbean. Since Martin has always dreamed of a great adventure, he persuades his wife and two children to transfer the boat together.
On site, the sailing boat proves to be a ramshackle boat. And the hired captain, the eponymous Captain Ron, is endowed with just as much self-confidence as incompetence. And even if the trip of the five can be described as very adventurous, Martin is disappointed. It wasn't until he reached the port of Miami with his family that he realized that this was exactly what he was always looking for.
After Captain Ron leaves the boat, the Harveys turn around and sail out to sea again.
Reviews
Rita Kempley scoffed in the Washington Post on September 21, 1992 that in a “just universe” the film, which is located near the Bermuda Triangle, would have “disappeared into another dimension”. He is one of the most pathetic comedies of the year and uses neither the talents of Martin Short nor the "sensuality" of Kurt Russell.
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was an "adventure comedy with only a few spot-on gags and the wisdom that even the average person can surpass himself if the need is just great enough".
Awards
Benjamin Salisbury and Meadow Sisto were nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1993.
backgrounds
The film was shot in Chicago and Puerto Rico . It grossed approximately $ 22.5 million in US cinemas .
