David Permut
David Permut (born March 23, 1954 in New York City ) is an American film producer .
Life
After graduating from college, Permut began a career as a film producer in the mid-1970s. His first project was the 1975 feature film Give 'Em Hell Harry, starring James Whitmore , which grossed over $ 11 million at a cost of just $ 320,000. In addition to feature films, he also produced programs such as Richard Pryor : Live in Concert (1979), which generated over 32 million in sales on a budget of less than one million US dollars. After these successes, he founded his own production company in 1979 and signed a cooperation agreement with Columbia Pictures . However, the new company did not publish its first feature film until three years later, Deadly Reckoning .
Permut had his first real box-office hit in 1987 with the crime comedy Schlappe Bullen nicht bissen , in which Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks played the leading roles. The blonde temptation , on the other hand, failed criticism in 1991 and accordingly flopped at the box office. In 1992, Permut produced the comedy Captain Ron and Alan J. Pakula's thriller Daring Game . In the same year he signed a lucrative contract with New Line Cinema .
In 1997 he produced John Woo's action blockbuster In the Body of the Enemy . Later projects could no longer build on this success.
