action

16-year-old Nick Twisp is in a crisis. His parents are separated. While on vacation he meets Sheeni Saunders and wants to win her over. In order to develop better opportunities, the hitherto well-behaved Nick creates an alter ego: François Dillinger, who is similar to Nick, but has blue eyes and a mustache and sunglasses. Nick, with the help of François, comes into conflict with the law to be sent by his mother to his father. With that he could be back with Sheeni.

When Nick is sent to his father, Sheeni's parents learn of Nick's crimes and send Sheeni to a French boarding school. There she is illegally visited by Nick, who, however, has to flee as a teacher learns about it. So he begins to convince one of Sheeni's classmates to give her sleeping pills, so that Sheeni falls asleep in class and is expelled from school. Nick then visits Sheeni at home, but Trent, Sheeni's ex-boyfriend, also appears and tells her about the sleeping pills. He has also called the police, who Nick is already looking for for the crime in his hometown. He flees and returns, however, to apologize to Sheeni. She accepts the apology, but Nick is eventually arrested by the police. However, since he is a teenager, his sentence will be short.

Reviews

“If you look at the film detached from the literary original, it is an all-round entertaining and highly amusing, also sympathetically cast and slightly weird coming of age story. [...] Anyone who knows the daring template can only be disappointed, because unfortunately the film doesn't have much in common with it. "

- Moviepilot .de

“It is true that Youth in Revolt initially reads in parallel as a story of emancipation and success, including a victorious rebellion against the establishment. With the crucial difference, however, that the nerd is chosen by a dream woman relatively early on, almost without any action on his part. In addition, he has an alter ego at his side that easily serves violent fantasies. The nerd film loses a little of its innocence with Youth in Revolt and develops into a harmonious, atmospheric teenie feelgood movie. "

- Critic.de

“Youth in Revolt is nowhere near as rebellious as the original. In return, Miguel Arteta managed a charming, often funny story about two 14-year-olds who first have to go through a few grotesque scenes in order to find each other. "
