action

Carl "Luke" Lucas has been working for his client Markus Kane for over 20 years. This time he is supposed to act as a driver in a bank robbery carried out by Kane's nephew and two other greenies. A gang member is shot dead in a bank shooting. Lucas and the other two manage to escape. While on the run, Lucas can ensure that the other two accomplices can also escape before he is caught himself. In the ensuing trial he did not testify against Kane and was sentenced to life and transferred to Terminal Island, a private prison owned by the Weyland Corporation . To finance the system, vehicles are cannibalized there and the individual parts are sold cheaply to buyers and so-called "death matches" are held - cage fights to the point of death. Audience ratings, however, continue to decline. So the host of these fights, September Jones, has to come up with something new. This is how "Death Race" is born from the cradle. As an incentive for the drivers, the driver who wins five races first receives his freedom. Each race goes over three laps on three days each. The first lap runs as a normal stock car race. From the second lap, drivers also have the option of unlocking defensive and offensive weapons by driving their vehicles over appropriate shields attached to the ground. Simultaneously outside the prison: Kane has found out where Lucas is being held and believes that the prison will sooner or later break his loyalty and is offering a $ 1 million reward for those who kill Lucas within 48 hours. 18 volunteers for the race in prison, including Carl Lucas, were quickly found. They argue over a total of nine vehicles. In the race that follows, Lucas doesn't just drive for victory. All comrades-in-arms are aware of the reward that is on his head, and they do everything in their power to kill Luke. Lucas 14K saves life in the race. 14K is a triad member and as such is obliged to do so with a favor to Lucas. On the final lap, Lucas' vehicle was hit by a heat missile and the vehicle went up in flames. In doing so, he suffers massive burns. He is officially declared dead and patched up again in the prison hospital to be reborn as "Frankenstein" for the Death Race. The Triads take care of Kane's demise in return for 14K's lifesaving. Lucas drives his first race as Frankenstein and his first act is the killing of the presenter September Jones.
