action
In the year 3000, in a post-apocalyptic world after the neutron wars, the world is divided. The death penalty has been abolished and so-called "death rallies" are held to calm the masses. The "outlaws" compete with primitive weapons against city dwellers equipped with laser cannons and motorcycles.
background
- Giants with steel fists was released on DVD in Germany under the alternative title Death Race 2050 . The film also appeared as a death rally in Helix City .
- With Frankenstein's death race / Death Race 2000 (1975, also with David Carradine in the leading role), Giants with Steely Fists (1978) and Death Race (2008, Jason Statham in the leading role), Roger Corman produced three films with a similar basic plot, but not in terms of content and in no way represent a trilogy .
- The budget was 150,000 US dollars .
- The optical effects are of below average quality and do not meet the technical possibilities of the 1970s. For the representation of the crowd scenes, however, some rather elaborate matte paintings were created.
- "Scream Queen" Linnea Quigley, u. a. known from Damn, the Zombies are Coming (1985), had one of her first roles here.
- Claudia Jennings, actress in Deneer, was Playmate of the Year in 1970 . She died in a traffic accident in 1979.
- Various sounds from Star Wars were used in the film. Among other things, the howling of the hunters, the breathing of Darth Vader , up to the shots from the laser pistols.
Premieres
- USA in April 1978
- Germany September 8th 1978
criticism
"Unimportant science fiction film about the traditional confrontation of the good with the bad, commercially cobbled together from commercially available future and horror set pieces, enriched with an unbelievable love story."
