action
Bella, a pit bull hybrid, was born in a demolished house in Denver . Her mother and her siblings are taken away by animal hunters, Bella is taken in by a mother cat and can continue to live under the ruins of the house. The young resident doctor Lucas, who lives with his mother Terri in the house across the street and regularly feeds the cat family, wants to show his friend Olivia the cats under the house. When little Bella comes out, Lucas decides to take Bella with him so that she can keep his mother company.
The bond between the dog Bella and her master Lucas has grown closer and closer over the years. She likes to chew on his shoes, regularly causes chaos with her inquisitive and playful manner and is part of the family. The little puppy grows into a big, strong dog. Bella supports, among other things, the rehabilitation of the depressed war veteran Terri and some of her fellow sufferers in the veterans home. One day her hunting instincts run wild with her, she follows a squirrel through an open window and is caught by the animal welfare service. A city law prohibits citizens from keeping pit bulls; in order for Lucas to keep Bella, he is forced to move to the outskirts of Denver. Until the move, Bella is staying with Olivia's uncle and aunt in Farmington , New Mexico .
Bella misses her owner very much and runs away. Bella tries to find her way back to Lucas on her own. To do this, she has to cover over 400 miles or more than 600 kilometers through the wilderness and over the snow-covered Rocky Mountains and experiences a number of adventures. Among other things, she has to come up with tricks to get food, meets other animals such as pumas , elks and wolves and saves the life of a person who was buried by an avalanche by helping to find it.

reception
Horst-Günther Fiedler wrote in TV-Media : "Simple story, but great animal feelings". The film would rightly rely on the effects of ex-junkyard stray Shelby, who portrays Bella. Dog lovers need strong nerves and some handkerchiefs to cheer.
Oliver Kube decided on film releases that the eponymous bitch was to fall in love with and that her story warmed the heart. The CGI effects failed in too many moments, which would give the film a bad taste. Similar to Franco Schedl on film.at, who said that the computer-animated animals would appear very unrealistic. Also, the story is "in parts quite naive and quite constructed together". On the other hand, the film would offer entertaining and exciting family entertainment.
