Edward James Olmos
Edward James Olmos (born February 24, 1947 in Los Angeles , California , USA ) is an American actor of Mexican descent. He also worked as a director and producer .
Life
An avid baseball player from an early age, Olmos decided to pursue a career as a rock singer at the age of 13. In the 1960s and 1970s he had considerable success with it in club appearances on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. For his starring role in the Broadway -Stück zoot suit , he received the 1978 Tony Award . A friend then advised him to switch to acting. His most famous roles are “Gaff” in the cult film Blade Runner and “Lt. Castillo '' in the television series Miami Vice . In 1989 he was nominated for an Oscar for best male leading actor in Stand and Deliver . In 1992 he made his debut as a director in The Law of Violence . He won the Golden Globe Award twice for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie, in 1986 for Miami Vice and in 1995 for Flames of Resistance . He won the American Latino Media Arts Award and the Lone Star Film & Television Award for his role in the drama Selena . In 2016 he received the Mary Pickford Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Satellite Awards 2016 .
Between 2003 and 2009 he played "Commander / Admiral William 'Bill' Adama" in the science fiction series Battlestar Galactica . He then appeared as a guest in the series CSI: NY and in 2011 in The Green Hornet . Also in 2011, Olmos played Professor Gellar in the first nine episodes of the sixth season of Dexter . Olmos plays the aged "Gaff" in the sequel Blade Runner 2049 .
Shaped by his poverty and violence marked youth in East Los Angeles, Olmos is a UNICEF ambassador and is heavily involved in youth work and for the rights of children.
Olmos has been married to Lymari Nadal , who is 31 years his junior, since 2002 . Between 1994 and 2002 he was married to the actress Lorraine Bracco for the second time. From his first marriage from 1971 to 1992, he has two children, Bodie and Mico Olmos.
