Triumph of the Spirit is a 1989 American film directed by Robert M. Young .
action
The film tells the fact-based story of the Greek Olympic boxer Salamo Arouch ( Willem Dafoe ). He and his family were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where they were forced to box to the amusement of the camp staff. As long as he wins, he can go on living, if he loses, he and his relatives are threatened with death. Arouch boxes and wins, his opponents are killed. He is the only one of his family to survive the Holocaust and to see the arrival of Soviet troops in the camp.
