The Twins are a German synth pop - band of the 1980s, particularly through its Single Ballet Dancer became known.
history
The group was founded in 1980 in West Berlin by Sven Dohrow (* 1957) and Ronny Schreinzer (* 1958). The two musicians are not related to each other, the band name should be understood in the sense of "two-man company". Musically, they were based on British bands such as Gary Numan's Tubeway Army , Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark or the early Depeche Mode .
The duo had a first notable success with their first single, The Desert Place , which became a hit in discos in Germany and made it to number 67 in the Billboard Dance Music / Club Play Singles . The 1983 single Face to Face - Heart to Heart was also listed under the Dance Music / Club Play Singles and even reached number 17.
The breakthrough experienced the Twins in Italy , where they landed within 18 months three top ten hits: Face to Face - Heart to Heart in 1983 to 4th place, Not the Loving Kind at No. 7 and a year later Ballet Dancer on Place 2.
In January 1984 Ballet Dancer became the first chart success in Germany at number 19 and a month later, at number 10, the duo's only hit single in Switzerland. The accompanying album, A Wild Romance , was also placed in both countries, in Germany at number 30 and in Switzerland at number 14. With the singles Love System (1984, number 27), Love in the Dark (1985, number 55) and Tonight (1993, 80th place), the group made it into the German charts three more times.
In 2003 the German band Master Blaster landed in the top 50 with a cover version of Ballet Dancer .
In 2018, after 25 years, another studio album followed with Living for the Future , with which they seamlessly built on the previous one. In August 2018, the band's biography, written by Sven Dohrow , was also published with the paperback The Adventures of the Twins: Electronic Pop in the 80s .
