Jacqueline Durran

Jacqueline Durran is a British costume designer . She was nominated four times for an Oscar for Best Costume Design , receiving the 2013 award for Anna Karenina and 2020 for Little Women .

Life

From 1984 to 1988 Durran studied philosophy at the University of Sussex and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . From 1994 onwards she studied the history of costume design at the Royal College of Art in London and achieved a Master of Arts degree in 1996 .

In the late 1990s, Durran worked as an assistant in costume design in his first films, including numerous large and successful productions such as Eyes Wide Shut , James Bond 007 - The World Is Not Enough or Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones . From 2001, she was also primarily responsible for costume design. Her early works included the short film Dog and the film All or Nothing by director Mike Leigh . In addition to Leigh, directors Sally Potter and Joe Wright Durran also booked several times for their films.

For her work in Vera Drake in 2004, Durran won the BAFTA Award in the Best Costumes category .

Durran received great recognition for her costumes in the films Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007). For both films she was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Costume Design in 2006 and 2008 respectively. For pride and prejudice , she also won the Satellite Award for Best Costume Design and was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Further nominations for the BAFTA Award, the Satellite Award and the Costume Designers Guild Award followed for atonement . She also won the Evening Standard British Film Awards for Best Technical Achievement , which she was given together with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey and production designer Sarah Greenwood . In 2020 she won the Oscar for her work on Little Women .
