The Scherstorklippen in the Harz low mountain range are a granite rock formation (up to 694  m above sea  level ) created by the weathering of wool sacks in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt . They are located near the district of Elend in a wooded part of the urban area of Oberharz am Brocken .

Geographical location

The Scherstorklippen are located in the Upper Harz (Hochharz) in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . They rise 2 km west-north-west of the Upper Harz district of Elend and 1.6 km south-south-west of Schierke , a district of the neighboring town of Wernigerode , 1 km west-south-west of the summit of the Barenberg ( 695.5 m above sea level ) and on average 2.2 km east- south  -east the mountain range of Wurmberg , Großem Winterberg and Kleinem Winterberg located on the Lower Saxony border . Respectively roughly northeast neighborhood are the mice cliff and Schnarcherklippen .

Hiking and climbing

The Scherstorklippen can be reached on forest and hiking trails . The path that branches off from the federal highway 27 to the north about 1.5 km west of Elend is also suitable for bicycles. The somewhat more difficult path from Schierke to the cliffs, also known as the Yellow Path , leads past the Mäuseklippe, and the Schnorerklippen are about 1 km from this path.
