Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park
The Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park was located in the Harz and Mansfeld-Südharz districts in Saxony-Anhalt . The in resin located Nature Park was established in 2003 and is approximately 1,660 square kilometers. The regional association Harz is responsible for this . In 2006 it became the Harz National Park through the merger with the Harz Nature Park (Saxony-Anhalt)
The nature park contained the Lower Harz , the Ramberg massif and parts of the Mansfeld region as well as the Saxon-Anhalt parts of the Harz National Park in the Hochharz. Its western border was part of the German Green Belt . It bordered the Harz Nature Park (Lower Saxony) to the west, the Südharz Nature Park in the southwest and the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park (Mansfelder Land) in the southeast, whereby the entire Harz is a large protected area .
In the Harz Mountains and thus in the nature park, which is characterized by species-rich flora and fauna , there are extensive forests, partly agricultural plateaus, deeply cut valleys with wild rivers and waterfalls, as well as reservoirs and reservoirs . In many places there is evidence of a long settlement history. There are also winter sports areas and the Harz is a hiking area.
The highest elevation of the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park and the Harz National Park is the Brocken ( 1141.1 m above sea level ).
