The regional association Harz e. V. is a non-profit association for the promotion of environmental, landscape and monument protection as well as art and culture. He is the sponsor of the Harz - Braunschweiger Land - Ostfalen Geopark . In the Lower Saxony part, he takes on the tasks of a landscape association for the area of the Goslar district .

history

The Harz Regional Association was founded in 1992 as an amalgamation of the Harz districts. Since 2003, the association has also opened up to supporting members, the number of which had grown to 115 by 2010, including associations, municipalities and companies.

In November 2003, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of the State of Saxony-Anhalt transferred the responsibility for the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park to the regional association . As a nature park sponsor, he implements the maintenance and development concept. As part of the visitor management , various series of leaflets were published, including a. on the topics "Experience nature on the paths of German emperors and kings of the Middle Ages" and "Experience nature on the Romanesque Road". The Harz narrow-gauge railways and the wild and romantic Bodetal near Thale are among the greatest attractions in the nature park . Worthwhile destinations in the southern part of the nature park are, for example, the Großer Auerberg near Stolberg or the mining museum and show mine of the Röhrigschacht in Wettelrode in Saxony-Anhalt . The highest mountain in the Harz, the 1141.2  m high Brocken , is part of the nature park, which was recognized as a quality nature park in 2006. In the future, it is to be expanded to the limits of the natural spatial unit Harz in the area of ​​the former district of Mansfelder Land.

Since September 2005, the regional association has also been the sponsor of the Harz Nature Park in Lower Saxony , which was founded on July 17, 1960. On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, a memorial plaque was erected near the auditorium of the Clausthal University of Technology in Clausthal-Zellerfeld in 2010 .

The 200 km long, signposted themed route “ Along historical border paths through nature and history ” leads through the aforementioned nature parks .

The regional association is also aiming to sponsor the Southern Harz Nature Park in Thuringia.

The “ Harz Nature Park Prize ” and the “ Harz Culture Prize ” endowed with € 2,500 are awarded annually within the association's territory .

Since 2005, the regional association has also been active as a landscape association and has taken on the task of regional cultural promotion for the area of ​​the district of Goslar. Funding is provided in the fields of music, literature and language, visual arts, independent theater, museums, socioculture and youth art schools.

Together with the open-air and adventure museum Ostfalen (FEMO e.V.) based in Königslutter , the regional association has been the sponsor of the Harz - Braunschweiger Land - Ostfalen National Geopark since 2002 and is responsible for its Harz sub-area in the states of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia . The Geopark has since been included in the European Geoparks Network (EGN) and UNESCO Global Geopark Network .
