The Schaumburg landscape is one of the landscapes and landscape associations in Lower Saxony and was founded in 1993. The sphere of activity includes the district of Schaumburg and thus the former Grafschaft Schaumburg and the Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe . The Schaumburg landscape is based in Bückeburg on the Bückeburg castle grounds .

tasks

The Schaumburg landscape, like the other landscapes and landscape associations in Lower Saxony, mainly faces cultural-political tasks. It has the legal form of a registered association and, on behalf of its regional authorities and the State of Lower Saxony , performs central municipal and decentralized state tasks in the fields of culture , science and education and operates the corresponding facilities.

Communal archeology

One of the decentralized state tasks of the Schaumburg landscape is the preservation of monuments in the field of archeology . Following the example of the East Frisian landscape , a new municipal archeology department was founded in mid-2009 in the Schaumburg landscape. As the lower monument protection authority, it is responsible for the preservation of monuments in the districts of Nienburg and Schaumburg as well as in the cities of Bückeburg, Hameln , Nienburg / Weser and Stadthagen . The prehistorian and medieval archaeologist Jens Berthold was appointed local archaeologist in 2009 , who carried out the task until 2019. The approximately 2000 km² area of municipal archeology extends along the Weser over 100 km in length and up to 30 km in width. With the support of five volunteers for archeology, almost 6000 archaeological sites are looked after. After Berthold's departure in 2019, Daniel Lau became the new local archaeologist.
