The Oldenburg landscape is a corporation under public law with its seat in Oldenburg in Lower Saxony . It has the legal mandate to take part in the maintenance and promotion of the historical and cultural interests of the former state of Oldenburg .

Emergence

The distinct historical and cultural self-image of the region is explained by the history of the Oldenburger Land, which was a politically independent state until 1946. On November 6, 1946, in their last session, the members of the Oldenburg Landtag demanded the creation of a self-governing organization for the area of the Oldenburg Land. After the attempt in the Lower Saxony state parliament to create a "Landscape Association Oldenburg" failed in 1954, Richard Tantzen founded the "Oldenburg Foundation eV" in 1961 on the initiative of the Oldenburg cities, districts and communities .

The discussions about the regional reform and the creation of the administrative district Weser-Ems led in 1974 to a resolution of the Oldenburg districts and municipalities, in which the improvement of the legal position of the "Oldenburg Foundation" was called for. Thereupon the Lower Saxony state parliament passed the law on the establishment of the Oldenburg landscape as a corporation under public law on May 27, 1974. The official establishment took place on February 8, 1975 in the Oldenburg State Theater .
