Arjen Tuiten

Arjen Tuiten (born September 23, 1980 in Joure , Friesland ) is a Dutch make- up artist .

Life

Arjen Tuiten already worked as a make-up artist in the Netherlands. At the age of 19, he went to Los Angeles on a work visa that did not allow him to earn any money . He managed to establish contact with Stan Winston , who let him work for his special effects company. Winston became his sponsor and eventually got him a green card so he could work in the United States. His first mentoring work with Winston was for The Time Machine (2002), Terminator 3 - Rebellion of the Machines (2003) and Big Fish (2003).

When Stan Winston died in 2008, Arjen Tuiten initially worked for the successor studio Legacy FX until he was poached by Rick Baker for the film project Maleficent - The Dark Fairy . In this film he was responsible for the make-up of Angelina Jolie .

After doing some work for Rick Baker, he helped him start his own company, REN Studios. His first work as an independent artist was LBJ with Woody Harrelson .

In 2017 he was responsible for the make-up of Stephen Chbosky's film Miracle . The film is about a boy with a disfigured face due to a genetic defect . It was the first time Tuiten worked with children. For his work, he was nominated for an Oscar for best make-up at the 2018 Academy Awards. Also in 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
