action

The film takes place 13 years after the first part of the horror series. She sacrifices herself to protect her boyfriend, after which they both try to learn more about the video and the backstory.

background

Paramount Pictures originally announced the title The Ring 3D, directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez, which was changed to Rings in November 2014 . In August 2014, Paramount spoke to Akiva Goldsman to write a third draft of the script, previously worked on by David Loucka and Jacob Aaron Estes. On January 16, 2015, Matilda Lutz was added to the cast as the lead role. Alex Roe was cast as a male lead on March 20, 2015. Johnny Galecki signed on April 1, 2015 for the role of Gabriels, a professor who mentors Holt and Julia. Rings was originally thought to be a precursor ; Gutierrez corrected this rumor: Rings is set 13 years after the film The Ring .

Filming began on March 23, 2015 in Atlanta and ended in June 2015. In summer 2015, post-production began at Paramount Pictures Studios .

Paramount Pictures originally set the release date for November 13, 2015, but it was postponed to April 1, 2016 in October 2015. In February 2016 the film was postponed again - to October 28, 2016. On September 22, 2016, Rings was finally moved to February 3, 2017. Since films in Germany traditionally start on a Thursday, the film first opened on February 2, 2017.
