Steven James "Steve" Mirkovich (born February 4, 1953 in Oceanside , California ) is an American film editor and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the American Cinema Editors .

Life

Steve Mirkovich grew up in Studio City in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles with eleven brothers and sisters. One of his sisters is the editor Lynne Willingham . His father, formerly a naval captain, was a temporary actor. In the late 1960s, Mirkovich attended high school and received a scholarship to the Art Center College of Design . After a few precarious jobs, Mirkovich began working in the Warner Bros. mailroom in 1972 . Then he got a job as a film courier in the department of the editor Rudi Fehr . In 1974 he was able to join the union. A year later he received training in sound editing and left Warner Bros.

This was followed by training in film editing ; Among other things, he worked on Die Unbrechlichen (1976). His first job as an assistant editor he had on the television series Pazifikgeschwader 214 for the editor Jerry Dronsky . This was followed by a job as first assistant editor for David Bretherton on the feature film Winter Kills . For five years, Mirkovich edited a total of eight films for editor Donn Cambern . In 1986, at the age of 29, he cut his first film as an independent editor, Jackals of the Night . To date, he's been involved in more than 50 film productions, including films like Con Air and I Know What You Did Last Summer . In addition, he improved several well-known feature films without credit , including The Passion of the Christ .

He has been married to producer Bronwyne Smith since 2003, whom he met while filming in Australia. He has two children with her. His son Tim Mirkovich is also a film editor.
