Feras Fayyad

Feras Fayyad ( Arabic فراس فياض, DMG Firās Faiyāḍ ; * 1984 in Syria ) is a Syrian film producer , film director , screenwriter and film editor .

Career

Feras Fayyads studied in Paris , and started a career in the film business in 2013, where he was responsible for the television documentary Windows as a director and also wrote the script. The film was broadcast on the Al Jazeera Media Network . He gained great fame through the documentary The Last Men of Aleppo , which illuminates the life of the founders of the White Helmets and focuses on search and rescue operations during the war in Aleppo . For this work he was awarded at numerous European film festivals. In addition, the film is the first Syrian contribution to be nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Documentary ” at the 2018 Academy Awards. He shares this nomination with the two producers Søren Steen Jespersen and Kareem Abeed , who did not receive a visa due to Executive Order 13780 .

Fayyad was arrested twice while shooting the film.

In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
