content
The film documents life in the city of Aleppo during the war and focuses its plot on the search and rescue operations of the internationally recognized White Helmets . This group is an organization made up of ordinary citizens who visit theaters of war in hopes of saving lives after military attacks. The documentary sheds light on the lives of the three founders of White Helmets, Khaled Omar Harrah, Subhi Alhussen and Mahmoud in their conflict of leaving the country or fighting for it.
A dirt campaign, according to the Guardian "organized according to the script of Russian disinformation", denigrated the director in the run-up to the Oscar awards. The film was vilified as "US propaganda" on Russian news websites and social networks.
