Laura Nix (* 1966 ) is a director , film producer and screenwriter . Nix was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Documentary Short 2020 with Walk Run Cha-Cha .

Life

Laura Nix studied at the University of California, San Diego , where she graduated with a Masters in Fine Arts . She worked for the film production company Telling Pictures . In 2001 she co-founded the production company Automatic Pictures . She produces numerous projects here, including Wether You Like It Or Not: The Story of Hedwig . This documentary about Hedwig and the Angry Inch may have been published. a. Screened at the 17th London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in 2003 . In 2002 her film The Politics of Fur , which she began while studying, was released , but was completed with difficulty within a few days. The film received awards at various film festivals .

She was a MacDowell Colony Fellow in 2006 and an IFP Fellow in 2012. In 2011 Laurel Nix's documentary The Light in Her Eyes was released about a Koran school for girls in Damascus . The documentary The Yes Men Are Revolting, about two men fighting against global warming in the style of Sacha Baron Cohen , premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014 . In 2018 Inventing Tomorrow premiered at the Sundance Film Festival . This is a documentary about teenagers struggling against climate change.

In 2019 her short documentary Walk Run Cha-Cha came out. The film was nominated for an Oscar for best short documentary and in the same category at the Tribeca Film Festival 2019. However, the Oscar went to Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl) .
