Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a film adaptation of the 1998 New York Off-Broadway premiered musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch from the year 2001 . John Cameron Mitchell wrote the text for the musical and later also directed and starred in the film. The plot is based on Jayne County's résumé . Stephen Trask wrote the music for musicals and films .

It tells the life story of Hedwig, who travels through America as a rock and roll drag queen, but was originally born as Hansel in East Berlin. The transformation of Hansel into Hedwig is described on the basis of several bizarre events and also the fact that something went wrong with the " sex change " and Hansel / Hedwig only remained the "angry inch" instead of a sex organ.
Reviews
The story is told mainly through the songs, as is typical of the genre, but the film also impresses with its extremely elaborate costumes (Hedwig wears 41 different outfits) and the very good acting performances that go back to the cast with theater actors.
