Berlin International Film Festival 2001
The 51st Berlin International Film Festival took place from February 7th to 18th February 2001 instead.
Award winners
The Golden Bear went to the erotic drama Intimacy by French director Patrice Chéreau . In the program of the official competition, for example, Lasse Hallström's romantic drama Chocolat - A small bite is enough and Steven Soderbergh's Traffic - Power of the Cartel were judged by the international jury. The Silver Bear in the “Grand Jury Prize” category went to Wang Xiaoshuai for Beijing Bicycle , a remake of the Italian film classic Bicycle Thieves . Lin Cheng-sheng received the Silver Bear for “Best Director” for Fire Red Flowers . Kerry Fox was named “Best Actress” for her portrayal in Intimacy , and Benicio del Toro was named “Best Actor” for Traffic - Power of the Cartel . While the Silver Bear went to the Danish director Lone Scherfig as the jury's prize for her dogma film Italian for Beginners , the cameraman Raúl Pérez Cubero won the prize for outstanding artistic achievement for You're the One (una historia de entonces) .
The American actor Kirk Douglas was awarded the Honorary Golden Bear for his life's work . A selection of his best films were shown during the festival.
The Audience Award in the Panorama section of the film was Berlin is in Germany by Hannes Stöhr excellent. The " Teddy Award " went to John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig and the Angry Inch . The film Forbidden Fruit by Beate Kunath , Sue Maluwa Bruce and Yvonne Zückmantel was awarded the Teddy Jury Prize.
