Berlin International Film Festival 1959
The 1959 Berlin International Film Festival took place from June 26th to July 7th, 1959.
The Berlinale was in 1959 politically in light of the Berlin crisis that Nikita Khrushchev had triggered when in 1958 the four-power status was denounced by Berlin-sided. During the Berlinale, the festival had to take a back seat twice when the Hessian derby for the German soccer championship between Eintracht Frankfurt and Kickers Offenbach took place on June 28th in the Berlin Olympic Stadium .
