Fons Rademakers
Fons Rademakers (born September 5, 1920 in Roosendaal , † February 22, 2007 in Geneva ) was a Dutch film director and actor .
Live and act
Rademakers, initially assistant director in Switzerland (for Jacques Feyder's film production A woman disappears ) and actor in Amsterdam, learned his profession in the 1950s a. a. with Vittorio De Sica and Jean Renoir . As a director, he made his debut in 1958 with The Village on the River (Dorp aan de rivier) , for which he was the first Dutch film director to be nominated for an Oscar. In 1961 Rademakers won a Silver Bear with Makkers, staakt uw wild geraas at the 1961 Berlinale . 1987 followed the Oscar for The stop (De Aanslag) based on the novel The Assassination of Harry Mulisch . In 1987, the film also won the Golden Globe Award , also in the Best Foreign Language Film category . In 1989 Rademakers made his last film The Rosegarden , a less successful international production. With that he ended his career and retired to Italy with his wife Lili. Most recently he lived in France.
Rademakers died of emphysema in a Geneva hospital .
