The attack (original title: De aanslag ) is a Dutch feature film from 1986 based on the novel " Das Assentat " by Harry Mulisch . Fons Rademakers led directed and produced the film. The main character (Anton Steenwijk) was played by both Derek de Lint (in the present) and Marc van Uchelen (as a youth towards the end of World War II ), while Monique van de Ven plays two different roles - one in the present as the Wife of Anton Steenwijk and a woman in the past who was involved in the attack and whom Steenwijk sees again later that night in a dark police cell.

Anton Steenwijk's family was murdered by the Nazis . His home was set on fire in 1945 after the body of a collaborator who was shot by the Dutch resistance was found outside his home. The story oscillates between the end of World War II and the 1980s. In doing so, she follows Steenwijk's search for the truth.
