Monique van de Ven
Monique van de Ven (* 28. July 1952 in Zeeland , North Brabant as Monica Maria Theresia van de Ven ) is a Dutch actress .
Life
Van de Ven was born in the Brabant village of Zeeland and grew up in Rijswijk . She attended the Toneelacademie Maastricht (drama school) in Maastricht and for a year the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (University of Music and Dance at the Academy of Fine Arts) in The Hague .
Her film debut from 1973, the leading female role alongside Rutger Hauer in the Wolkers film adaptation Turkish Fruits , directed by Paul Verhoeven , brought her breakthrough and international attention. In the same year, Verloren Maandag with Jan Decleir followed , in 1974 Wim Verstappens Dakota with Willeke van Ammelrooy and Erik van Zuylens De laatste trein , before she played in 1975 under the renewed direction of Paul Verhoeven in the historical drama Das Mädchen Keetje Tippel .
In 1973 she married the cameraman and director Jan de Bont , with whom she was married for 17 years. They had both lived in Los Angeles since the early 1980s . There she tried to gain a foothold professionally and had some guest appearances in the US crime series Starsky & Hutch and played in an episode of Remington Steele .
After her divorce from de Bont, she married her colleague Edwin de Vries , whom she met in 1987 while filming Een Maand Later .
In 1999 she was named Actress of the Century in the Netherlands. Van de Ven made her debut as a director in 2008 with the film adaptation of Zomerhitte (Summer Heat) by Jan Wolkers. In 1996 she had already been behind the camera in a short film.
Van de Ven has been UNICEF ambassador for the Netherlands since 1996 .
