Willeke van Ammelrooy

Willeke van Ammelrooy (born April 5, 1944 in Amsterdam ; actually Willy Geertje van Ammelrooij ) is a Dutch actress .

Life and accomplishments

Willeke van Ammelrooy began her career in the theater and worked with the three largest Dutch ensembles. She made her debut as a film actress in the short film Rotterdam-Europoort by Joris Ivens in 1966 . In the film Mira (1971) she already took on the lead role. In the thriller A Man Goes Whole (1972) she played alongside Telly Savalas . In Cancer Rising (1975) and the thriller Outsider in Amsterdam (1979), she was next to Rutger Hauer to see. While she quickly rose to be the most popular female star in Dutch and Belgian cinema, she remained almost unknown in West Germany, where few of her films have hit theaters.

In the comedy Antonia's World (1995), which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film , van Ammelrooy took on the lead role of Antonia . In 1995 she won a prize at the Nederlands Film Festival for her performance . She received the same award for her role in the film Lijmen from 2000. In 2001 she received the Grolsch Film Boulevard award of the Nederlands Film Festival . In the film drama Das Haus am See (2006) she played the role of Kate Forster's mother , who played Sandra Bullock .

Van Ammelrooy is married to the singer Marco Bakker .
