Edwin de Vries (born January 14, 1950 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch actor , screenwriter , director and film producer.

life and work

After graduating from the Amsterdam Theater Academy, he worked as an actor and director for various Dutch theater groups from 1972 before turning to the medium of film in the early 1980s. After minor appearances and supporting roles in film productions, he got the lead role in Ate de Jong's In the Shadow of Victory in 1986 at the side of his friend and later business partner Jeroen Krabbé . He also wrote the script for the film together with the director.

After countless works as an author, actor and director, he founded the production company Mulholland Pictures in 1998 with Jeroen Krabbé and Ate de Jong , for whose first production, Kalman's Secret (1998), he also wrote the scenario.

Edwin de Vries wrote the screenplay for the 2001 film The Discovery of Heaven directed by Jeroen Krabbé based on the novel by Harry Mulisch of the same name . For this work he was awarded the Golden Calf for best screenplay at the Nederlands Film Festival in 2002. De Vries also has a small supporting role here.
