Ate de Jong (* 1953 in Aardenburg ) is a Dutch film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Career

Ate de Jong studied at the Amsterdam Film Academy from 1970 to 1974. Two years later he made his debut as a director with the feature film Alle dagen feest (1976); Another six movies followed when he moved to Hollywood in 1986 , where he directed several episodes of the American cult series Miami Vice . He also made two movies in the United States - Highway to Hell and My Bad Friend Fred .

In the early 1990s, Ate de Jong returned to Europe and settled in London . Since then he has mainly worked for European co-productions such as All Men Are Mortal , but also for German and Dutch television productions.

In 1998 he founded the production company Mulholland Pictures together with Jeroen Krabbé and Edwin de Vries , for which he has worked as a filmmaker ever since.
