history

On November 6, 1989, SR started its fourth radio program SR 4 . This was a mixed program that served as an alternative program in the first few years when the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation was not yet producing its SR 2 Kulturradio on its own. It was mainly played live music . The ARD programs for foreigners were also broadcast every evening and the Open Channel on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The project to integrate the youth radio Our thing into the program scheme of SR 4 failed, so that the program since March 1, 1999 mainly from the foreigner programs (7:00 - 10:00 a.m.) as well as the direct broadcasts from the Bundestag and the state parliament of Saarland existed. In the rest of the time, the program from SR 2 Kulturradio and SR 3 Saarlandwelle (10:00 pm - 12:00 pm) was mainly taken over. The radio broadcasts of the open channel in Saarland were now broadcast daily (4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.). However, the program was only broadcast on frequency 103.7. The other frequencies were taken over by our youth radio station. This led to reception problems in the Neunkirchen area and in the Moselle valley.

In September 2001, an amendment to the Saarland State Media Act was passed in the Saarland Landtag ; Since then, due to the emergence of the so-called new media , citizen radio has no longer been a compulsory task of the state media authority .

The Saarland Evangelical Church in the Rhineland described the renunciation of the civic medium as a loss of participation in democratic processes. The Saarland media council also spoke out in favor of the continued existence of the OK; the CDU government, on the other hand, spoke of an unmeasurable relevance to the public of the open channel and of contributions with "dubious journalistic quality". On March 30, 2002, the open channel in Saarland was closed.

On January 1, 2004, the youth radio "Unser Ding" took over frequency 103.7 from SR 4.
