Jan Decleir
Jan Amanda Gustaaf Decleir (born February 14, 1946 in Niel , Antwerp Province , Belgium ) is a Flemish actor.
He started out as a stage actor but became known for film and television roles. One of his early films was Pallieter from 1976, in which he played Bohumil. The film Daens , directed by Stijn Coninx , in which he played the leading role of the priest Adolf Daens , was nominated for an Oscar in 1993. In 1995 he played the role of the farmer Sebastian in Marleen Gorris ' film Antonia's World , which won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 1996. He starred in Mike Van Diems drama Karakter in 1997 in the role of the bailiff Dreverhaven, which also received this award at the Academy Awards a year later. In 2003 he played the main role of the hit man Angelo Ledda in the crime film Totmachen - The Alzheimer Case , one of the most successful Belgian films of all time, which was not distributed in German-speaking countries.
Decleir is known to the children as Sinterklaas , whom he played on VRT 's children's and youth channel Ketnet and in 2005 in the feature film Winky wants a horse .
Decleir was married to Caroline Van Castel, with whom he has three children. After his divorce he married the Dutch woman Brechtje Louwaard. His brother Dirk Decleir was also an actor, but died in a traffic accident in 1974. His sister Reinhilde Decleir, his son Jenne Decleir and his daughter Sofie Decleir are also actors.
Decleir managed the Herman Teirnlick studio for a number of years, where he brought in many new teachers and actors from various theater groups (e.g. de Blauwe Maandag Compagnie, STAN, etc.).
Awards
Jan Declair has received several awards for his acting. He received the Best Actor Award at the Montreal World Film Festival for the role in Off Screen . In 2003 he received the Golden Calf Culture Prize (Dutch: Gouden Kalf ), in 2005 the Belgian Mira d'Or award and in 2007 the Golden Calf for Best Supporting Actor for the film Wolfsbergen at the Dutch Film Festival . In 2008 he was awarded the Best Actor Award at the Tiburon International Film Festival for his role in Man zkt vrouw . For his role in The Barons he received the Magritte Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2013 he received the Flemish Culture Prize for general cultural merit.
