action
Dolf Vega is a 15 year old Dutchman and a talented soccer player. He plays in the Dutch national youth team and, as a striker, stubbornly misses the chance to score a decisive goal in an important game in the German city of Speyer . The teammates are mad at him and he at himself. He would like to undo his stubbornness. And this even seems possible to him, because his mother Mary is a scientist who works on a time machine . Dolf breaks into the laboratory at night and even manages to get into the secure room of the time machine. However, the room is secured with an alarm system and so Dolf has to operate the time machine under stress and accidentally enters the password for the machine in the field for the period. So he ends up in Speyer , but in the High Middle Ages of 1212 instead of shortly before the important football game. There he comes across the Children's Crusade with a crowd of children and young people who are on their way to Jerusalem . In a crusade they want to free the holy city from the Muslims. In his peculiar clothes, Dolf is perceived as a crazy but likeable boy. When he saves a child from drowning because he is the only one who can swim, he becomes a hero, which not only makes him friends. Nevertheless, his skills have become of vital importance for the children and Dolf moves with them to Italy to take the ship to Jerusalem. He stays with the children because he has fallen in love with the pretty Jenne.
At home, Mary Vega and her colleague go in search of their missing son. They can find information about a strange boy through history books. On the basis of drawings made by the clergyman Thaddeus, they finally find the place where Dolf is and bring him back from the past into the present. But Jenne, whom Dolf actually wanted to take with him during his time, could not be detected by the time machine.
With the help of his mother, Dolf travels back in time to bring Jenne to the present day. The mother wants to bring both of them back from the Colosseum in Rome after three weeks . It is not clear whether she will make it, since in the last scenes of the film security guards are already on the way to arrest her because she has illegally gained access to the time machine.

Reviews
- Programmkino.de: All in all, the entertaining juxtaposition of the ways of life and thinking of different epochs is pleasing because of its ability to combine history and fiction. Although it does not answer all questions, it does encourage you to read existing literature and do your own research.
- film-dienst 20/2007: Elaborately staged adventure film for young people; Although with a few concessions to the mass taste, he nonetheless traces the Middle Ages of farmers, beggars and orphans in an exciting and knowledgeable way, including questions about values, tolerance and faith.
- TV feature film : Based on the youth novel by Thea Beckman, a beautiful and exciting film was created that cleverly mixes history with fiction and wit. Because what was the name of the MP3 player in the Middle Ages? Troubadour in a box ... Cinema with a triple effect: clever, exciting and also educational.
