Thea Beckman (born July 23, 1923 in Rotterdam as Theodora Petie, † May 5, 2004 in Bunnik ) was a Dutch writer. Beckman dealt mainly with youth literature.

Life

Theodora Petie initially trained as a seamstress and worked as an office worker until she married Dick Beckmann in 1945. She started writing for youth magazines. On the advice of the publisher, she chose “Thea Beckman” as a pseudonym for her first book. In 1971 she received the Zilveren stylus for her first work Met Korilu de Griemel rond (German: world tour with Korilu) . In 1973 Beckman had her breakthrough as a youth author with the work Crusade into the Unknown , which was awarded the Gouden Griffel the following year . Beckman made up his Abitur in 1975 and then studied social psychology at the University of Utrecht . In 1981 she completed her studies.

Beckman died in Bunnik in 2004, in the same year the Historisch Nieuwsblad Bontekoeprijs , the award for the best historical book for young people in the Netherlands, was renamed Thea Beckmanprijs .

2006 saw the first film adaptation of a Beckman novel, Kreuzzug in Jeans .
